What is LEGIT?

LEGIT (Lodging Emissions & Guest-night Impact Tracker) is a methodology that extends the calculation scope of per-night hotel emissions, enabling guests to understand the full environmental impact of their stay.

Expanding the calculation of per-night hotel emissions to include both direct (energy use, heating) and indirect emissions (food, toiletries, construction, supply chains) provides a fuller picture of the environmental impact of a hotel stay.

Methodology

What is behind it

This extended emissions measurement methodology, building on the existing HCMI framework, has been developed by Hospitality operator Bob W in partnership with consultancy Furthr. It takes into consideration extra Scope 3 measurements, such as the environmental impact of construction materials, furniture and supplier emissions.

Who created it

The LEGIT methodology was developed by Tech-powered short term rental operator Bob W in collaboration with top tier sustainability consultancy Furthr, to tackle lacking existing standards. The methodology is simple to use, free, open source and available for all to use. The simple goal is to adopt an industry-wide apples to apples “per guest night” metric to answer the demands of the travellers and to secure the long term viability of the hospitality industry.
